Faithful

For the summer, our church is going through Colossians.  There are so many wonderful truths in this book that I decided to do a deeper study.  Today, I listened to it several times on YouVersion Bible App.  I love using it to listen to a lot of verses at one time, it helps to give a quick overview of the Bible.  Each time I heard Colossians this morning, a different truth would stick out at me.

Colossians 1   1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the saints and faithful brothersa] in Christ at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father.  We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints,

I wanted to start with who is writing this – it is Paul and Timothy a fellow believer.  He is writing to the believers at Colossae.  A nugget I just saw was these believers were also called “faithful”!  I always love Paul’s salutations – “Grace to you & peace from God our Father” – they are so full of hope and such a blessing.  Think of these 2 words – Grace (God sending His Son Jesus to die (four our sins) in our place.  We don’t “deserve” His love, but He gave it anyways.  Peace is also a wonderful gift from God – it “surpasses all understanding”.  Isaiah 26:3 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

Next we see that they – Paul & Timothy are always thanking God for them when they are praying for them.  It is not a pray of anguish but of joy!  Why? They heard of their faith in Jesus – they were definitely a good witness of Christ!  They were living out their faith.  They also were being loving towards ALL believers.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogantor rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;b] it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.  1 Corinthians 13:1-8

Can we honestly say that this describes us?  Our we living out our faith?  Do others see Christ in us?  One way we do this is by our love for each other?  If we do not show love to one another, how is the world going to see Christ’s love?  John 13:35  “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

I pray that each day we remember what Christ did for us – died on the cross for our sins.  He took our punishment.  That we rest in His grace – accept His sacrifice for us.  That we take this knowledge and share it with others.  In all that we do – we reflect the Peace of God that surpasses ALL understanding – as we trust God in every situation.  I pray that this is also reflected in how we treat others – that we are remembering what Christ did for us and how His forgiveness of our sins is way more than anything others might do to us.  Let us walk in His Grace and reflect this grace to others!!!
