Psalm 1 – Living Water

Psalm 1:3

He is like a tree
    planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.

The other day we looked at the 1st 2 verses of Psalm 1.  This 3rd verse is the result of being in the Word daily.  A tree that is planted by a stream of water is very healthy – it will have the life giving water that it needs to grow and produce.

I was just thinking about how Jesus is called the Living Water… John 4:13-14 (talking to the woman at the well) “13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.b] The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

A tree that is good – is fruitful.  It will produce fruit – it will reproduce itself.  The same is said of us.  If we are connected into the Living Water – Jesus (the Word of God) we will be fruitful.  We need to be sharing the Gospel – the Good News to others around us!  If you can listen to a message by Louie Giglio – Extravagant Worship, it is a wonderful message on God’s Grace.  It is because of God’s Grace that we can share it with others as well!!!

I am reflecting now on the last half of this verse….  its leaf does not wither… how does that apply to our lives?  Sometimes we get weary from the tasks we face….  Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”  We need to be in the Word daily – and through out our day.  We need to keep our focus on God instead of the circumstances of our life.  It is so easy to want to do give up.  I know that the enemy wants to give up, quit, not following God.  But we need to keep connected to the Living Water!

The end of the verse talks about prospering – even Galatians 6:9 talks about the prize.  We may not see the goal in the moment, but if we keep on going, we will eventually see the victory!

Romans 8:28 “28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”

Are you living for HIS purpose?
